Fiber optic shape sensing has an outstanding capability to sense curvature and shape in 2D and 3D. The technology enables cutting-edge applications in the fields of robotic and standard minimally invasive surgery – such as real-time position tracking, instrument and catheter navigation, force and bending detection as well as deformation monitoring.
Our fiber optic shape sensing system comprises a sensor (FBGS ShapeProbe®), a measurement device (ShapeScan®) and the software that manages all the algorithms for data readout and processing.

The FBG-Scan 915-EP stands as FBGS’ flagship in spectrometer-based FBG interrogation technology. It seamlessly merges 15 channels with the high performance of the FBG-Scan 90X series. Tailored for industrial applications, this unit boasts an unmatched precision of 0.3 pm at full measurement speed, accommodating a maximum array of sensing points.
To align with these industrial needs, the optical engine is encased in an Embedded Processing (EP) platform within a standard 19” chassis.
